I mainly object to the idea that these people's only friends are apparently all the same people they were friends with as toddlers/children/teenagers/whatever. I mean, sure, a few inseparable childhood friends is one thing, but one's entire social network remaining unchanged since infantcy? That doesn't strike me as a sign of well-adjusted people...
(Which brings me back to a concern I have about the new Trek movie - there shouldn't *be* an epic origin story of how the Enterprise crew met and became a team. They're not mythic heroes tied together by fate - they're a bunch of people who ended up assigned to the same ship...)
