I'm Holding Out For A Tetris Movie

Universal has won a four-studio bidding war to pick up the film rights to the classic Atari video game "Asteroids." Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Note that it's not just one studio that thought Asteroids was a good game to make a movie out of - no, there was apparently a bidding war over it, this being such a brilliant idea.

Do you really need the Asteroids brand name to sell your guy in a spaceship shooting asteroids movie? It just seems to me that people who are going to see an asteroid themed movie are probably going to go see it anyway, even if it's a generic asteroid movie and doesn't use Asteroids' gripping storyline and memorable characters...

Are you nuts?

What the hell are you on?

The immersive story line and character depth were what made Asteroids an instant classic!!!

How many people are still talking about EGA 'roids or Space rocks 3d hugh? No one! Yeah that's right man - NO ONE!

I feel sorry for you; for it seems that you have missed the subtelties of one of the epic sagas of our generation!

Asteroids was built on the foundation that previous master works like Lord of the Rings layed down - and was the only game ever to surpass its storytelling. Sure there is no Tom Bombadill in Asteroids, but who are you to judge man? Who the fuck are any of us?

Asteroids proved to the world that computer games where the movies of the future!

ASTEROIDS STANDS TALL ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS!!!
