So, about three months ago, we had the carpet pulled up in the hall, intending to replace it with wood. Guy pulled up the carpet, looked at the bare floor, decided it wasn't level enough, and said he couldn't do it.
Three months later, we finally get someone in who'll level the floor and put down a new one. Leveling the floor required concrete, so that day I was trapped in my room while it set. Then a full day and a half to put the new floor down. Well, it's done, all finished. I cajole the workmen into helping me move the fridge and dishwasher back into the kitchen - I can't move them by myself, and if they do it, it's their fault if the floor gets scratched in the process.
So we get everything back in. Fridge is where it's meant to be, dishwasher isn't quite in its alcove, since I need room to feed the pipes and cables where they're meant to be before I move the dishwasher back into place. The workmen want to leave, so I pay them, and then move the dishwasher the remaining meter or so myself.
It won't go in. I assume I'm pushing it in crooked. Nope. I check to see if something's in the way.
Bingo.
Seems the workmen were a little too thorough in putting up new skirting boards. They put them not just around all the walls, but around the kitchen benches. And around the little open area under the sink where the dishwasher goes.
Which means, of course, that that alcove is now about fifteen millimeters narrower than the dishwasher...
