A friend brought to my attention Send Your Name To Mars, where you can submit your name to be included on a microchip that will be part of the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity, scheduled for launch in 2011.

Having your name sent to Mars as part of a cheesy NASA promotion may not sound that interesting, but let me remind you that with NASA's track record of Mars missions there's a non-negligable chance that your name will instead end up off course, hurtling away from our solar system into interstellar space, where presumably it will eventually be upgraded by powerful aliens. Having become self-aware, it will then begin destroying all inhabited planets it encounters, due to a comical misunderstanding of your name causing it to believe that was the reason it was created.

And who wouldn't want to leave a legacy like that?
