Note that as far as I know, Bioware haven’t actually said in as many words that they’re going to rewrite the ending. Still, that doesn’t change the impact that this is obviously having. It’s surreal to see the story starting to be taken up by mainstream outlets, and, to me at least, that alone seems like a victory.

I can’t help but think of the fan outcry over Sherlock Holmes’ death in The Final Problem. Now, I’m not going to go so far as to believe Mass Effect will ever attain Holmes’s level of literary immortality – but still, it’s nice to be reminded that I’m not the only one who was this invested in the setting and the characters.

I do wonder what Bioware's money-men are making of stories like this. On the one hand, hey, free publicity. On the other hand... free publicity that includes the phrase 'soul-crushing'...
