Stuck in a Quagmire

Continuing my overseas adventures around the Pacific rim, I thought it'd be fun to visit Vietnam. Unfortunatly, it seems all the flights I can find are either extremly expensive, involve twelve hours or more layover at Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, or both.

Is there some major holiday in the region in late June I'm not aware of that would explain this, or am I just horribly unlucky with air fares?
