I've lent my copies of the A Song of Ice and Fire books to my friend, who's reading them for the first time. So far, she' s just finished A Game of Thrones.

It is... difficult to avoid letting spoilers slip when she's talking about them. Just making sure I don't refer to key characters in the past tense is a bit of a challenge - I think I'm going to have to avoid seeing her at least until she gets up to the... wedding... *grin*.

Oh yes, the Red Wedding... or were you referring to the OTHER wedding at which someone drops dead suddenly?

It's been a while since I reread ASOIAF, actually. I used to do it every few months, but for the last year and a bit, no. Feast for Crows really got to me... I suppose it might be because of the planned time gap after it, that hampers the pacing and makes all the misery seem that much more unrelenting, somehow.

Oh whoa, I've just started reading that series. I'm about 2/3 done with A Game of Thrones, and it's really good so far. The thing I don't like is that so many people die. I like having my favorite characters nice and safe. :\ But I guess that's not the style of ASoIaF?

Part of the fun of ASoIaF is deciding who your new favorite character should be when your last favorite ends up shorter by a head...

Personally, I recomend trying to like the Lannisters, or perhaps Littlefinger. They're not as sympathetic as the Starks, perhaps, but they have a far longer life expectancy.
