There are bits where characters almost seem to realise what's going on - in Eclipse, for example, when Jacob 'jokes' about 'abusive controlling teenage relationships'... which is weird, because it means Meyer is at least somewhat aware of how creepy aspects of her story is, but just doesn't feel the need to rewrite any of it to remove that aspect.
And, like I said, the whole Renesmee pregnancy section is so perfectly written as a horror novel, I have to assume at least some of it is intentional. Then again, she doesn't seem at all aware of how creepy the implications of Jasper's emotion manipulation powers are...
