"An apparent slip-up in which Kevin Rudd swore on national TV last night was actually a carefully scripted line, crafted by the Labor Party, to increase the Prime Minister's appeal with workers, the Opposition claims."
- The Age

I think it really says something good about Australian culture that the controversy - such as it is - focuses less on the PM swearing on national TV, but rather on calling into question whether it was authentic swearing or merely scripted swearing... it's taken as a given that the PM swearing on TV is a positive thing for his image.

Did that sound sarcastic? It's not - I'm really genuinely happy to be living in a country which accepts that, yeah, people swear, it's not that big a deal, and the PM's not expected to be above these things.
