Alright, what is it with people who are into the Byzantine Empire? Every single time I meet someone who's interested in the Eastern Roman Empire, they're not just interested - they're obsessive, and prone to start pontificating on it for hours at the slightest provocation.

And they also have a tendancy to refer to themselves as 'Byzantine scholars', regardless of their actual academic achievements.

Granted, history enthusiasts are all a bit like this, but Byzantine-philes seem to be a cut above the usual level of obsession and obliviosness to other people's lack of interest...
