So there’s a bunch of posters around to promote the new Prince Caspian film. There’s a couple of different designs with Caspian himself, and one of the Pevensie children, but the one I’ve seen the most shows Telmarine king and his army, with the caption “Meet the new face of Evil!”
Now, maybe it’s just me, but I kind of think that focusing on the villains may not be the most logical way to promote Prince Caspian. I mean, nothing against the book, but the Telmarines are probably the least memorable villains in the whole series. “The new face of evil”? Seriously, you do not want to be inviting comparisons between the Telmarines and Narnia’s old face of evil - I mean, let’s contrast them, shall we?
Jadis, the White Witch: Descendant of Djinn and the Demon-Queen Lilith. Wiped out the entire population of her homeworld. Ruled as Empress of Narnia for over a century. Magical power sufficient to keep the entire kingdom in a state of permanent winter. Casually turns people to stone. Secret police composed of wolves. Probably wiped out the Beavers as a species. Superhuman strength. Possibly immortal.
Oh, yes, and she killed Aslan.
Miraz the Usurper: Descendant of Pitcairn Island mutineers. Inherited all power from his brother. Appears to have decided to model his life on Hamlet’s Claudius. Gets stabbed in the back by one of his own lords.
Oh yeah, he’s the guy you want the film’s publicity to focus on…
