In California Girls, is the singer wishing that all the other girls would become similar to Californian girls, or does he simply desire that the other girls move to California?

If the mere fact of being female and residing in California is supposed to transform one into a bikini-clad sex goddess (or whatever he's imagining), then there's been a failure of the land-magic somewhere. Of course, there's also the tiny detail about California being mostly not eternally-warm beachfront... *looks out to see if fog has rolled in yet*

If he just wants similarity, I can't imagine that the girls up in Michigan would benefit all that much from going out under-dressed, either.

Although this could lead to an amusing mini-fandom where everyone decides that he wants the girls to move to California so he and his hot buddies in New Jersey or wherever they live will be forced - forced, I tell you! - to sleep with each other due to the utter lack of women. In fact, I think this sounds like what I've hearde of SPN fandom.

It's confusing me... The song doesn't actually bother describing California girls; possibly "I couldn't wait to get back to the States, back to the cutest girls in the world" is referring to them, but then, all the other women described are also American...

Perhaps the Beach Boys were calling for the expansion of California's borders to encompass the entire continental US?

Then they are out of luck - I don't think California wants the rest of the US. (This might explain the "cutest girls in the world" line, too. Wisconsin might as well be a foreign country to Californians.)
