'Tis the Season etc. etc.
Nov. 27th, 2007 06:13 pmTV ads with a Christmas theme are starting to dominate the airwaves... I think I'm actually starting to miss the election ads - at least they only had obnoxious buzzer noises, not endless verses of 'We wish you a merry Christmas'.
One of the nice things about living in an area with a large Chinese immigrant population is that the local shopping centre has managed to resist the urge to play Christmas carols constantly from October onwards, and their Christmas decorations are rather muted. At least, I assume it's the Chinese influence; every other shopping centre I've visited in the last month is doing the standard constant loop of "The Little Drummer Boy".
Noted in the news that President Bush already has Christmas decorations up in the White House... I was always taught that one doesn't put up decorations until the start of Advent - is the tradition different in the US, or does the White House just follow the lead of shopping centres and decorates as early as humanly possible?

on 2007-11-28 06:47 pm (UTC)Either way, I'm already sick of the ads. Especially the ones with snow. As if most of the population in California lives in snow-receiving areas. (Okay, plenty drive to see the snow in Tahoe, I suppose, but still. The coast and the Central Valley are not exactly known for their good skiiing!)
