Five cent coins to go the way of one and two cents.

Look, on the one hand, I agree – five cent coins are effectively worthless. On the other hand – if you’re making the smallest unit of currency the ten cent coin… Well, hell, why not go the whole way and eliminate cents altogether? Ten cent coins aren’t particularly useful either.

Hey, at least your government is taking these baby steps. We still have one-cent coins here. If I were Currency Czar, I'd eliminate the penny and the nickel right now. (The dime and the quarter still have their uses, for instance in vending machines, though I suspect the dime not for long.)

Well, sure, but those are US cents - that's like, 1.2 Australian cents! Totally worth keeping around!

And I've always kind of wished we had a quarter-dollar coin...

*imagines a 1.2 cent coin* Oh yes, now I see the uses! Wait...

Supposedly pennies actually cost money to handle the useless things or something (not sure about the details). Worthless coins.

I've never understood why the half-dollar coin hasn't caught on. Maybe it will now that the half-dollar is far more useful than the frakking penny.
