Normally I hate people who complain about hearing too much about celebrities, but normally it’s easy enough to completely avoid stories about them. Tiger Woods, though – do we really need to hear any more about him and his not very interesting problems? I ask because he was the lead story on the SBS World News tonight – Apparently his apology to the world and incidentally to his wife is clearly the most important thing that happened in the world today. I mean, damn it, the Olympics are on – he shouldn’t even be the lead story in the sports section of the news!
Tiger at the Olympics
on 2010-02-21 11:58 pm (UTC)Ok, seriously, I was watching the Olympics the other day, and had to endure sixteen (16) interruptions of the telecast to bring us the breaking news of Tiger's apology (in it's entirety). I counted - 16 times!!! I shit you not! Now, as I was recording this event, I decided to go back and measure the time given to Tiger. He got more air time than the Canada vs Switzerland match (that went into overtime) - the most exciting and important match so far!
To be fair, Chanel 9 had to choose between the Ice Hockey, and Eddie Mcguire making fun of a gay man! They chose poorly.
Oh, and one other thing, I've had more TV air time than the Ski Jumping and Curling combined!
Still, Tiger takes the cake!
